The easiest way to prevent Salicylate Pain is to avoid eating them entirely, and if you do, you should eat them in small amounts. It has actually been proven by Rheumatologists that having a Salicylate-free diet can help cure eczema and joint stiffness in less than a month. It has also been proven that Salicylates serve as a preservative, so if you are buying a product that says it is preservative free, but it says that it has foods with Salicylates in them, then it isn’t preservative free at all, since Salicylates are a natural preservative.

Preventing salicylate Pain
Preservatives in Salicylates
I have recently found out that Salicylates contain preservatives, which are generally harmful for you. I have also found out that some preservatives contain Salicylates, which contain preservatives, which contain salicylates. (is your brain getting twisted yet?) It is a bit confusing considering that one contains the other which contains the one which contains the other.

Ways to treat Arthritis
While doing some research for "Whats on my plate?" (WOMP), I found some things that are useful for treating arthritis. I would really appreciate it if you guys would be able to comment on these and add on any of your own cures.
Here are some of them:
Here are some of them:
- Since arthritis is mainly inflammation of the joints, you could use herbs that serve as anti-inflammatory tablets, but are natural instead of something that you have to get from your Doctor. Turmeric, Indian Olibaum and Ginger is a good infusion of herbs to use.
- Another thing you could do if you have arthritis is buy an extract from New Zealand's green-lipped mussel. It contains a glycoprotein that has been proven to ease arthritis-related pain.

Guess the higher Salicylate levels
My next seven or so posts will be showing a competition for people who can guess which foods have a higher Salicylate level: The left or the right.
(Hint): The one that tastes the nicest is the one that has the most chemicals in it.
The first competition question is on the left:
Does the olive oil or the Sunflower oil have higher Salicylates?
Why do Salicylates cause pain?
My older sister has arthritis and for the past four months she has only eaten foods that are Salicylate-free. Everyone has a threshold of tolerance to chemicals in food and her threshold must be lower than mine because she reacts to them and I do not seem to. A build up of Salicylates over a week or so causes her arthritis to flare up. Her body can not deal with the build up of chemicals in her body. Mine can.
Effects of Salicylates on other people
Salicylates can actually also cause effects on other people. When pregnant, a large dose of salicylates can give them a higher chance of anaemia and indigestion.
Also, if salicylitic acid stays in the Gastrointestinal tract (the tube that runs from your mouth to your anus) for too long, it can cause nausea and Epigastric Distress.

An ideal diet to avoid Salicylates
Here is a link to a chart that shows an ideal diet for people with arthritis, with negligible to moderate being good, and high to very high running the risk of inflamation. It is also helpful for people who don't have arthritis because they can stay healthy and prevent problems later (see "effects on people who don't have arthritis").

What are Salicylates?
A Salicylate is a natural chemical that is found in a wide variety of foods. My older sister has arthritis, and she is on a diet that avoids Salicylates, because they can cause her joints to become inflamed, which causes her pain.
